The Influence of the Black Church and the Nation of Islam on African American Politics

The Southern Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s was largely based in the Black Christian Church. However, the Northern movement, which developed at roughly the same time, was an Islamic led movement. By the end of the decade, the two movements had converged. It should be noted that the influence of the Black Christian church in the African American political scene predates, by far, the 1960s.
