For now, I’ll simply go away this evaluation of Black Reconstruction from The Herald Tribune (1965) here: “After 1935 no severe historian may ignore the method to the Reconstruction period set forth via Du Bois and no accountable citizen could be entitled to statement on the field without contemplating this outstanding, searching examination of The United States’s most misunderstood period” (by scholarly critic J H Franklin cited within the introduction to the 1976 version)
