NYPD Police Killings 1979 to 1990

NYPD Killings 1979 to 1990

This is a 90 percent complete list of persons killed by the New York City Police Department between 1979 and 1990. It does not include many of the well known high profile cases like that of 30 year old African American businessman, Arthur Miller, who was choked to death by approximately 16 officers of Brooklyn’s 77th precinct in New York City on June 17th, 1978. That killing led to the formation of the Brooklyn, N.Y. based, Black United Front (BUF). The Black United Front expanded to become a national organization headquartered in Chicago.

Also, this listing does not include the February4th 1999 murder of the 23 year old African American Amadou Diallo (immigrant from Guinea, West Africa) who was murdered in the doorway of his apartment building when four NYPD officers fired 41 shots at him.

Editor’s note. In the attempted conversion of the decades-old original fax, some of the dates were lost, and some of the fonts were altered. Where available, sex and race of those killed is listed under the SEX column. Use the arrows on bottom left to view pages.
